Houston Tx Metal Spray

Houston Tx Metal Spray

Houston Tx Metal Spray

If you are in the market for Houston Tx metal spray and like to learn about its function, you’re in the correct place. Metal spraying is also known as thermal spraying and involves covering a diverse range of surfaces with a metallic coating. It will use a spray of molten particles. In this article, the different styles of metal spraying will be described. These styles include flame spraying, wire arc spraying, plasma spraying, cold spraying, and a few others.

Metal Spraying

This process is very versatile. Because of this, you have many options. Your choice of substrates, which means underlying substance or layer, can be seen in the list below.

Substrate choices:

  • Aluminum
  • Steel and stainless steel
  • Copper
  • Bronze

You also have the choice of your coating material, which goes over the substrate in either power or wire form.

Coating material choices:

  • Tungsten carbides
  • Stainless steels
  • Ceramics (like aluminum oxide, chrome oxide, zirconia, and titania)
  • Nickel and chrome carbides
  • Pure metals like zinc, aluminum, and copper

Flame Spraying

Flame spraying is an industrial coating process that consists of a high-pressure flame and a coating material. The coating material is usually in a powder or wire form. It is sprayed at a high velocity so it melts. Once completed, flame spraying helps to improve the performance of the component.

Cold Spraying

Cold spraying is unlike thermal spray coating in the way that the coating materials are not melted by a thermal source. Instead, we use high-pressure gas. Next, it is used over powder material to help it reach critical velocity. After this, supersonic nitrogen and/or helium gas propels solid powder particles onto the component at high speeds. Cold spraying ensures little to no oxidation buildup during the process and very dense coating. It is in use for aerospace, medical, and electronic industries.

Plasma Coating

Plasma coating is when an electrical arc is ignited and the gases within it are ionized to become a plume of hot plasma. When the coating material is moved through the gas plume, it is melted onto the substrate as a thermal spray. This forms the plasma coating. The results are repeatable and predictable due to the accurate regulation of the applied current. The distance of the plasma gun from the substrate keeps the component at a controlled thermal spray temperature that is usually in the range of (100°F to 500°F). With a plasma coating, you will also have a choice of coating materials such as metal alloys, ceramics, and carbides. There is a low affected heat zone and therefore low component distortion. This process can be fully automatic with robotic equipment.

Wire Arc Spraying

Wire arc spray is a form of thermal spraying where two consumable metal wires are fed into the spray gun. The wires are then charged and an arc is generated between them. The heat from the arc will melt the incoming wire. This will entrain into an air jet from the gun. Once this has started, the molten feedstock is then deposited onto a substrate with compressed air. Use this process for heavy metallic coatings.

Other Metal Spraying Techniques

If you are still curious, there are even more styles of metal spraying. This includes detonation spraying, warm spraying, and HVAF or HVOF.

HVOF stands for High-Velocity Oxy-Fuel coating. HVAF is high-velocity air fuel. Warm spraying is very similar to cold spraying but modified. Detonation utilizes a powder charge.
